The Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML) is all set to introduce its next generation all-electric SUV, the Avinya. The five-seater Tata Avinya electric car, featuring Tata’s “Gen 3 architecture”, was first unveiled by TPEML in Mumbai in April 2022.

Tata Avinya: Rival to Tesla

The company is preparing to position its Avinya electric car directly to challenge the Tesla Model 3, which is expected to enter the Indian EV space shortly. As per reports, the Tesla Model 3, the company’s most economical EV, may be priced expectedly above Rs. 30 Lakh.

Tesla’s entry into India

The Elon Musk-led Tesla is reportedly gearing up to start retail operations in India expectedly by April this year. It has also posted job advertisements recently in its official LinkedIn page in Mumbai and Delhi. Initially, the company arranged to import vehicles from its Gigafactory in Berlin-Barandenberg. The improvement occurs after a major shift in the policy of the Indian government. The government is now expected to consider import concessions to the U.S. manufacturers to export components to Indian market from their foreign units.

Tata Motor’s market share in EV

Tata Motors has the highest share in electric vehicle sales in the country accounting for 62 percent market share. Engineered for a global audience, the Avinya’s structure, as Tata claims, is built with top-notch structural safety, along with advanced waterproofing and dust resistance. This makes it well-suited for diverse terrains, particularly on Indian roads and highways.

Tata Avinya: Design and features

The Avinya electric car is claimed to be offered with a flexible design coupled with advanced driver assistance systems, and next-generation connectivity.

The new Avinya electric is expected to come with tons of features including a digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, voice command technology, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, anti-lock braking system (ABS), wireless charging, USB charging, and aroma diffuser.

Tata Avinya: Expected range

Tata also emphasizes that Avinya’s battery technology supports ultra-fast charging. It can deliver a minimum 500km range within less than 30 minutes. According to the company, Avinya’s electric architecture incorporates state-of-the-art materials, efficient electronic componentry, and proprietary energy management strategies to enhance efficiency in the premium electric vehicle segment.

Tata Avinya: Expected price

Featured with cutting-edge technology, software and artificial intelligence (AI), the Avinya electric car is claimed to bring with it a new era of innovation in the electric landscape of the country. The electric SUV is likely to get an affordable price tag expectedly somewhere around Rs. 40 Lakh.

Tata has not yet announced any official date for the launch of Avinya electric car. However, it is expected that the EV will be available in the market by around 2026.
