Hyundai Motor India has announced plans to set up nearly 600 public EV fast charging stations across the nation over the next seven years.

As a part of this initiative, HMIL will deploy a network of 50 such stations by the end of 2024.

This initiative essentially aims to address India’s charging infrastructure challenges and will bring confidence among EV users.

Hyundai car owners can get direct access to the facility of over 10000 charging points across the country through ‘myHyundai’ app.

India is gradually shifting towards electric mobility. Adoption of EV is looming. However, the lack of public EV charging stations is a major roadblock in this transition. At this juncture, Hyundai’s initiative to install public charging stations could play a crucial role to make EVs as practical choice for Indian buyers.

Why EV Fast Charging Stations Matter

One of the primary barriers of mass level EV adoption is range anxiety, which means running out of charge during long distance drive. The following are some key reasons why public charging infrastructure matters-

  1. Fast and easily available charging points will make long drive in EV more feasible.
  2. Public stations can offer competitive rates compared to domestic charging, specially for high-speed charging.
  3. Robust public charging network attracts potential buyers to choose EVs practically

HMIL’s Charging Solutions

HMIL’s new fast-charging stations will come up in major highways and cities considering the long distance commuters.

The company stated that its charging stations will be accessible to all four-wheelers EVs manufactured in India, offering convenient charging solutions to consumers in general at attractive tariffs.

As per the South Korean carmaker, till date the Hyundai Motor has facilitated about 50000 charging sessions, dispensing over 7.30 lakh units of energy to more than 10,000 and non-Hyundai EV consumers.

MOU with Tamil Nadu Government

HMIL has also signed an MoU with the TamilNadu government to install 100 EV charging stations throughout the state by the year 2027. Out of these, 10 stations will be made operational by the end of 2024. Presently, only three charging stations are fully operational; two in Chennai and one in Tiruvannamalai.

AC & DC Fast Chargers

Hyundai plans to deploy both AC and DC fast-chargers with multiple configurations at its public EV charging stations. While AC chargers are suitable for overnight or long duration parking, DC fast-chargers can charge an electric vehicle fully within very short duration.

HMIL’s Vast Charging Network

HMIl’s EV charging stations are strategically located in major cities like Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Chennai. The company has established a vast network of charging facilities on major highways such as Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Surat, Bengaluru-Pune, and Pune-Kolhapur.

Let Me Conclude

Hyundai Motor India’s initiative to set up a network with 600 public EV fast-charging stations will essentially develop promise and convenience among the existing and potential EV owners. The network will facilitate the EV users to look forward with hassle-free journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
