In a significant move, JSW MG Motor India has declared a ₹Rs 50,000 increase in the price of all the 3 variants of its popular MG Windsor EV coupled with discontinuation of the introductory pricing and free battery charging facility with effect from the beginning of 2025.

The decision to price-hike came when the company achieved 10000 units of the EV sold only within December 2024. Launched in September, the customer delivery of the Windsor EV started in October of the last year. At the time of launch, the company announced that the introductory price would be available to the new buyers either up to 31.12.2024 or dispatch of the first 10000 units of the EV, whichever is earlier.

MG Windsor EV price hiked across variants

With the recent price hike, the cost of MG Windsor EV, excluding the BAAS, will now start at ₹13,99,800 (ex-showroom) for the entry-level Exite variant and ₹14,99,800 (ex-showroom) for the mid-level Exclusive trim. For the top-level Essence variant, buyers will now have to pay ₹15,99,800(ex-showroom).

MG Windsor EV battery and range

MG Windsor offers a 38-kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 331 km (ARAI-rated) on a single charge. With the DC fast charger, it only takes 55 minutes to charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent at a peak charging rate. There is a Battery-as-a-Service (BAAS) program that allows buyers to pay a lower upfront cost excluding battery cost and pay for the battery on a pay-per-usage model, which starts from ₹3.5 per km (excluding charging cost).

MG Windsor EV: End to free charging facility

The latest update brought an end to the free charging facility. This was part of the complimentary benefits where the buyers, who took delivery of the cars within 31st December 2024 had access to charge their EVs free of cost through the MG e-hub application. This free offer is no longer available to the new customers. The App integrates charging stations from multiple providers so that the EV owners can locate those for charging their cars.

Despite the end of free charging options, MG has declared that it will still provide the first owners of Windsor EV with a lifetime battery warranty. The subsequent owners will get a warranty of eight years or 1.6 lakh km.

MG Windsor EV sales

The MG Windsor EV has gained immense popularity among buyers from the beginning with more than 15000 bookings on the day it was launched. More interestingly, the company has dispatched a total of 10045 units of the EV in consecutive three months, which accounts for 49% of the brand’s passenger vehicle sales in the same period. Sales of Windsor EV increased gradually from October with 3116 units to November and December with 3144 and 3785 units respectively. Combining the sales of the brand’s three EVs (Comet EV, ZS EV and Windsor EV), MG Motor recorded a total sale of 7516 units in December, which contributed 70 percent of the company’s overall sales volume in the same month.
